Start with the cash project price
Ask for the project price before financing so you know what the products and installation cost on their own. Then compare each financing option against that baseline. If a promotional plan changes the contract price, ask for the difference in writing.
Compare APR, term and total paid
A longer term can lower the monthly payment while increasing total interest. Compare the annual percentage rate (APR), number of payments, total of payments and any origination or dealer fees. Promotional “same as cash” or deferred-interest offers can have special deadlines and conditions, so read the disclosure instead of relying on the monthly payment alone.
Contractor financing vs. outside financing
Contractor-arranged financing can be convenient because it is integrated with the project. A bank, credit union or other lender may offer different rates or terms. The useful comparison is the complete financed project cost under each option—not which application is fastest.
Payment timing
Understand when deposits, progress payments and final balances are due and whether the lender pays the contractor at signing, delivery, installation or completion. Do not assume the financing schedule matches the construction schedule. The contract should identify the payment milestones.
Questions to ask before accepting financing
- What is the cash price of the project?
- What APR applies after any promotional period?
- Are there origination, dealer or prepayment fees?
- What is the total amount paid over the full term?
- When are funds released to the contractor?
- Can the project scope or price change after approval?
- What happens if the project is delayed or cancelled?
Do not finance an unclear scope
Before signing a loan or financing agreement, make sure the construction proposal identifies the manufacturer, product series, opening count, doors/sliders, permit responsibilities, installation scope and warranty. Financing a vague quote makes it harder to compare value later.
No financing assumption
Sunward does not promise a particular loan, rate or payment. Financing availability and terms depend on the provider and applicant. Use this guide as a checklist and review the lender’s disclosures before agreeing to a financing product.
Get a project-specific estimate first
Start with a clear project scope, then decide how to pay for it. Request an estimate for your South Florida property and compare financing only after you understand the products and installation being proposed.
